About this role
OpenArt seeks a Founding Platform & Reliability Engineer to design and own the end-to-end infrastructure stack supporting an AI-native creative platform serving millions of users. You'll balance scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency while making critical architectural decisions and acting as a technical force multiplier for the engineering team.
What you'll do
- Define and operationalize SLOs/SLIs across critical user journeys and drive prioritization using error budgets
- Lead incident response improvements, establish blameless postmortems, and participate in on-call rotation
- Implement end-to-end observability including structured logs, metrics, traces, and dashboards
- Design deploy safety practices such as automated rollbacks, canarying, and feature-flag patterns
- Own infrastructure architecture decisions including serverless vs. containerized systems and multi-provider AI reliability
- Build cost observability and control primitives including per-request cost attribution and capacity planning
What they're looking for
- Production systems design and operation (5+ years)
- Cloud-native infrastructure (AWS or GCP)
- Serverless and event-driven systems
- Container orchestration (Fargate, ECS, Cloud Run, or Kubernetes)
- Observability and distributed tracing
- Resilient system design (timeouts, retries, circuit breakers, idempotency)
- Software engineering and production code shipping
- Cross-functional communication of technical tradeoffs
Benefits
- Ownership of real systems rather than narrow slices
- Direct impact—work shipped to millions of users
- Founder-led engineering culture with technical founders involved in product and architecture
- High autonomy with low process and emphasis on speed and judgment
- Opportunity to shape AI-native platform design
- Role in scaling a 7-10X revenue growth company to its next stage
