Software Engineer - Application Platform
About this role
Figma is seeking an experienced backend engineer with strong Ruby production experience to build and maintain shared infrastructure frameworks that power the company's REST APIs, asynchronous job systems, and workflow orchestration. You'll focus on improving developer velocity, system reliability, and scalability across the engineering organization while modernizing a large codebase and partnering with product teams.
What you'll do
- Design and evolve shared Ruby frameworks for REST APIs, asynchronous jobs, workflow orchestration, and data access patterns
- Improve availability, reliability, scalability, and performance of critical backend systems serving Figma's platform
- Modernize large Ruby codebase through safe architectural changes, including migration from Sinatra to Rails and strengthening type safety
- Accelerate backend development by enhancing hot reloading, local workflows, test infrastructure, CI reliability, and debugging tools
- Strengthen asynchronous job platform with improved scalability, isolation, observability, and failure recovery capabilities
- Partner with product engineers and infrastructure teams to identify pain points and build reusable platform capabilities
