About this role
Flock Safety is hiring an Android Framework Engineer to develop embedded system software for AI-powered security cameras. You'll work on custom AOSP builds, designing system services and hardware abstractions that enable autonomous field operation, not traditional mobile app development.
What you'll do
- Design and implement versioned service interfaces using AIDL/HIDL for device functionality
- Develop testable system service implementations in Rust or C++
- Optimize power consumption and performance across the device stack
- Debug and trace application code through multiple OS layers
- Contribute to AOSP customization, security policies, and OTA updates
- Collaborate on architecture, design documentation, and code reviews
What they're looking for
- AIDL/HIDL interface design and versioning
- Kotlin and Java development with coroutines and threading concepts
- Rust or C++ for embedded systems
- AOSP development and Android build system
- Performance profiling and debugging tools (Perfetto, Android Profiler)
- Linux kernel and driver development
- Git, Gerrit, Jenkins, JIRA, and shell scripting
- System-level debugging and tombstone analysis
