About this role

Zipline is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their New Products team, focused on developing innovative ground systems that support their autonomous drone delivery operations. You'll own the mechanical product development lifecycle, from initial concept through validation and deployment, ensuring the systems are reliable, manufacturable, and perform effectively in field operations. This role requires a hands-on approach and collaboration across various engineering and operational teams.

What you'll do

  • Design and validate automated ground systems for aircraft launch, recovery, and recharge.
  • Develop mechanical designs including structures, mechanisms, and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Conduct analysis and testing to mitigate technical risks and optimize performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver complete system solutions.
  • Work with suppliers to translate prototypes into production-ready assemblies.
  • Lead technical reviews and make design tradeoffs considering various factors.
