Los Angeles, CA (On-site)$120k–$150kmidAdded 2 days ago

About this role

Freeform seeks a Design Engineer to reimagine advanced energy hardware components for additive manufacturing. You'll work at the intersection of part design and AI-native manufacturing, redesigning turbines, heat exchangers, valves, and other critical energy systems from first principles to unlock new performance capabilities and manufacturing possibilities.

What you'll do

  • Design and redesign energy hardware across turbines, heat exchangers, valves, manifolds, pressure vessels, and fuel systems
  • Develop deep understanding of component requirements, performance drivers, and system constraints in energy generation and storage
  • Identify opportunities where additive manufacturing enables new geometries, consolidated assemblies, and improved performance
  • Evaluate design concepts considering materials, tolerances, thermal/structural behavior, and manufacturing feasibility
  • Answer technical questions on design tradeoffs, process capabilities, and production scalability
  • Collaborate with internal teams and customer engineering to refine concepts and align execution

What they're looking for

  • Mechanical or energy systems engineering
  • Advanced part design and CAD
  • Additive manufacturing knowledge
  • Thermal and structural analysis
  • Materials science and selection
  • Systems-level thinking for energy applications
  • Manufacturing process understanding
  • Technical communication
