Los Angeles, CA (On-site)$120k–$150kmidAdded 2 days ago

About this role

Freeform seeks a Design Engineer to reimagine aerospace and defense hardware through additive manufacturing and advanced part design. You'll work at the intersection of complex systems engineering and innovative manufacturing, redesigning components from first principles to unlock new performance capabilities and architectures previously constrained by traditional manufacturing limits.

What you'll do

  • Design and redesign aerospace/defense parts including propulsion systems, thermal management, valves, turbomachinery, and structural components
  • Develop deep understanding of component requirements, performance drivers, and system constraints in aerospace/defense programs
  • Identify opportunities where additive manufacturing enables new geometries, consolidated assemblies, improved performance, or cost/lead time reduction
  • Evaluate design concepts with expertise in materials, tolerances, thermal/structural behavior, and manufacturability
  • Answer advanced technical questions on design tradeoffs and process capabilities independently
  • Engage directly with frontier aerospace and defense industry partners

What they're looking for

  • Mechanical or aerospace engineering expertise
  • Part design and first-principles thinking
  • Additive manufacturing knowledge and constraints
  • Materials science and thermal/structural analysis
  • Manufacturability and production reasoning
  • Systems-level component understanding
  • CAD and design software proficiency
  • Technical problem-solving and design tradeoff analysis
