About this role

Freeform seeks a Simulation Engineer to develop physics-based numerical models for automated metal 3D printing systems. You'll create high-performance solvers for laser powder bed fusion processes, optimizing them for GPU and HPC platforms while collaborating across software and control engineering teams.

What you'll do

  • Develop numerical solvers for simulating metal 3D printing physics
  • Implement real-time simulation models optimized for GPU and HPC execution
  • Integrate low-level solvers into simulation pipelines and hardware systems
  • Guide computational geometry and meshing techniques for large-scale physics simulations
  • Architect simulation modules for FPGAs and GPUs
  • Support model-predictive control strategy development with control engineers

What they're looking for

  • Numerical solver development
  • C, C++, or CUDA programming
  • GPU and high-performance computing
  • Solid mechanics or continuum mechanics
  • Direct numerical simulation (DNS)
  • Computational geometry and meshing
  • Data-driven modeling and hybrid physics/data methods
  • Thermo-elastic or thermo-elastoplastic modeling
