About this role
Notability seeks an early-career backend engineer to build and maintain core systems powering the learning platform. You'll own features across the entire backend stack—from APIs to databases to scalability—while shipping stable, well-tested code and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.
What you'll do
- Own core backend features across the full stack, from client API interactions to database queries
- Ship stable, readable, well-tested code serving the entire Notability business
- Communicate clearly in writing, conversation, and through AI tools with crisp problem statements and honest status updates
- Drive work to completion by navigating ambiguity, incorporating feedback, and handling edge cases
- Jump into unfamiliar areas to solve challenging technical problems
- Continuously improve through feedback from mentors and peers while mentoring others

- Backend development with demonstrated shipped products
- Web fundamentals including browser, network, async behavior, and application state
- AI coding tools and modern development workflows
- TypeScript and modern web code (nice to have)
- GraphQL (nice to have)
- Docker and infrastructure as code (nice to have)
- Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services (nice to have)
- LLM APIs and AI-assisted development (nice to have)
