Forward Deployed Software Engineer

About this role

GovWell seeks a Forward Deployed Software Engineer to work directly with complex municipal customers, resolving technical deployment challenges and translating enterprise needs into scalable product capabilities. You'll operate at the intersection of engineering, sales, and customer success, ensuring enterprise growth strengthens the core platform while based in NYC with travel to key clients.

What you'll do

• Diagnose and resolve technical blockers during high-stakes enterprise deployments with municipalities
• Partner with Sales and Deployment teams on late-stage deals, providing technical feasibility assessment
• Convert bespoke customer requirements into scalable, reusable product abstractions
• Build targeted code or configuration solutions while avoiding long-term technical fragmentation
• Travel to municipalities to understand constraints firsthand and accelerate execution
• Escalate durable product opportunities to core teams and influence roadmap decisions

What they're looking for

• Full-stack or forward-deployed SaaS engineering (5+ years)
• TypeScript/Node.js or similar backend languages
• Customer-facing deployments and integration experience
• Product judgment and technical decision-making
• Executive communication and stakeholder management
• Systems thinking for converting patterns into reusable solutions

• Ability to navigate ambiguity and manage revenue-sensitive problems
