Java Engineer - Backend Platform

About this role

Hawk-Eye Innovations seeks a Java engineer to build a new backend platform delivering real-time athlete performance data globally. You'll design low-latency data pipelines, event-driven systems, and cloud infrastructure on AWS, working hands-on in a collaborative squad from day one.

What you'll do

• Design and maintain backend services and data pipelines using Java for high-volume real-time data streams
• Implement event-driven architectures using Kafka, SQS, and AWS services to process live sports tracking data
• Deploy and operate cloud-native services on AWS ensuring scalability, reliability, and 24/7 uptime
• Build observability into services with metrics, structured logging, and distributed tracing from the start
• Define and maintain API schemas including REST and WebSocket endpoints in collaboration with frontend teams
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code practices, and architectural decisions around data flow and storage

• AWS (S3, Lambda, SQS, Greengrass)
• Microservices and distributed systems
• Data pipeline design and transformation
• Observability tools (Datadog, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry)
• REST API design and schema management
• Kafka or message brokers
• Stream processing frameworks (optional)
