Research Engineer

About this role

Hiverge is seeking a Research Engineer in Cambridge to develop collaborative multi-agent systems for an AI-powered algorithm discovery engine. You'll research and implement agent collaboration techniques, design experiments to enhance system capabilities, and work alongside elite researchers from DeepMind and Cambridge to shape next-generation discovery platforms.

What you'll do

• Research and implement approaches for collaborative agent systems working toward shared goals
• Design and execute experiments to improve system capabilities and efficiency
• Collaborate with research engineers and leadership to align technical work with product objectives
• Stay current with advances in AI agents, language models, search, and automated discovery
• Iterate rapidly on research ideas and validate approaches through experimentation

What they're looking for

• PhD-level expertise in Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field
• Advanced Python software engineering with complex systems experience
• Open source project contribution or creation
• GPU programming and optimization
• Agentic systems, planning, or reasoning frameworks
• Algorithms and optimization background
• Evaluation framework and experimentation platform design
• Cross-disciplinary collaboration and communication
