Automation and Controls Engineer

About this role

Join Google's Intrinsic AI robotics team as an Automation and Controls Engineer to design, build, and deploy intelligent industrial robotic systems. You'll work across the full project lifecycle—from concept through delivery—collaborating with software developers, product managers, and customers to advance industrial automation capabilities.

What you'll do

• Design and program robotic workcells from hardware selection through robot, PLC, and HMI programming
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to determine system requirements and automation layouts
• Source and integrate hardware components into automation solutions
• Evaluate build-versus-partner decisions for developing robotic capabilities
• Establish hardware and software standards for industrial control systems
• Document and communicate technical work to internal and external stakeholders

What they're looking for

• PLC programming (Beckhoff, Pilz, or similar platforms)
• Robot programming (Fanuc, KUKA, UR, ABB, or equivalent)
• Electrical and pneumatic schematic design
• Industrial control systems debugging and wiring
• Fieldbus communication and motion control
• Safety circuitry and logic design
• Vendor management and RFP/SOW execution
• Comfort with ambiguity and problem-solving
