Linux Engineer

About this role

Jane Street seeks Linux Engineers to build and maintain critical infrastructure powering their trading systems. You'll work on kernel optimization, automation tools, and production issue resolution while collaborating across the organization, with mentorship from experienced team members.

What you'll do

• Debug and optimize kernel performance and system-level issues
• Develop deployment automation and configuration management solutions
• Maintain comprehensive monitoring and observability across infrastructure
• Troubleshoot and resolve production incidents in real time
• Conduct root-cause analysis and implement long-term infrastructure fixes
• Collaborate with trading, technology, and operations teams on firm-wide systems

What they're looking for

• Linux system administration and troubleshooting
• Unix command line and shell scripting
• Systems programming (C, sockets, memory management)
• Network protocols and basic network troubleshooting
• Debugging and profiling tools (gdb, perf, DTrace, eBPF)
• OCaml or willingness to learn it
• Strong programming fundamentals in any language
• Understanding of OS fundamentals and modern computer architecture
