Software Engineer - Kubernetes

About this role

Kong is hiring a Software Engineer to develop and maintain its API gateway and Kubernetes-native connectivity solutions. You'll work on high-performance products like Kong Gateway Operator and Ingress Controller, collaborating with cross-functional teams to build features for cloud-native architectures.

What you'll do

• Develop and maintain Kong Gateway Operator and Ingress Controller for reliability and performance
• Write tested, maintainable Golang code with focus on quality and peer review participation
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and DevOps teams to design and deliver new features
• Debug and solve problems within your codebase area using defined procedures
• Contribute to open-source community initiatives with senior team guidance
• Design components within larger systems, analyzing trade-offs and articulating technical reasoning

• Golang proficiency (or strong background in C++, Java, or Python)
• Kubernetes architecture and concepts (Pods, Deployments, Services, CRDs)
• Unit and integration testing
• API Gateway or Service Mesh understanding
• CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Cloud-native ecosystem familiarity
• Problem-solving and debugging
• Communication and remote collaboration
