Software Development Engineer II, Search Box

Mapbox is seeking a Software Development Engineer II to join the Search Box team, which focuses on developing location-based search solutions for various user scenarios. The role involves designing efficient algorithms, optimizing existing systems, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance user experience.

What you'll do

• Design and implement search retrieval algorithms
• Optimize algorithms for efficiency and performance
• Write technical design documents and partake in code reviews
• Oversee the development and implementation lifecycle of your designs
• Collaborate with international teams to ensure high quality solutions
• Test and monitor systems while providing on-call support as needed

What they're looking for

• Understanding of search techniques and data structures
• Experience in algorithm performance optimization
• Proficiency in modern programming languages (JAVA, C++, Rust)
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills
• Experience with operational diagnostics and product improvement
• Fluent in English and conversational in Japanese
• Familiarity with the Japanese address system
• Knowledge of maps and navigation (preferred but not required)
