Muon Space
Mechanical Engineer II, Solar & Deployables
About this role
Muon Space seeks a Mechanical Engineer II to design and develop solar array and deployable system hardware for LEO satellite constellations. You'll own components from concept through flight, working hands-on with prototyping, testing, and production alongside senior engineers in a fast-paced build-test-learn environment.
What you'll do
- Design solar array and deployable system components and assemblies from concept through detailed design and release
- Produce engineering documentation including drawings, GD&T, BOMs, and tolerance stacks under configuration control
- Build and test prototypes to evaluate concepts and retire design risk early
- Support qualification and acceptance testing including deployment, vibration, and TVAC environmental tests
- Perform first-order structural analysis and hand calculations to guide designs; collaborate with analysts on detailed FEA
- Design test fixtures, GSE, and tooling for efficient, repeatable build and test operations
What they're looking for
- CAD design (SolidWorks preferred) for components and assemblies
- Engineering drawings, GD&T, BOMs, and tolerance stack analysis
- Prototyping and hands-on testing of mechanical hardware
- Fabrication methods: machining, sheet metal, composites, additive manufacturing
- Structural analysis and FEA (FEMAP, NASTRAN, ANSYS, or similar)
- Environmental testing: vibration, TVAC, shock
- Spacecraft hardware and deployable mechanism design
- PLM systems and ECO/DCO processes
Benefits
- Equity compensation
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- 401k retirement plan with company contribution
- Short and long-term disability and life insurance
- Three weeks paid vacation for new employees, 12 paid holidays, unlimited sick time, and paid parental leave
