About this role
Northwood seeks a Senior Network Engineer to design and operate the global backbone infrastructure connecting satellite ground stations worldwide. You'll architect high-performance WAN systems, manage advanced routing protocols, deploy optical transport systems, and coordinate international circuit deployments for mission-critical space communications.
What you'll do
- Design global network backbone architecture with 99.9%+ uptime for mission-critical satellite communications
- Implement and manage BGP, OSPF, and IS-IS routing protocols across international WAN infrastructure
- Deploy and configure DWDM, optical switches, and fiber systems for high-capacity data transport
- Coordinate circuit provisioning and activations with international service providers and carriers
- Negotiate contracts and establish relationships with carriers, internet exchanges, and data center providers
- Monitor network performance, plan capacity upgrades, and optimize QoS policies for satellite traffic
What they're looking for
- Layer-1 technologies (fiber optics, DWDM, optical transport, circuit troubleshooting)
- BGP, OSPF, IS-IS routing protocol implementation and optimization
- Cisco, Juniper, Arista backbone infrastructure platforms
- Service provider networks and MPLS carrier-grade solutions
- Complex network infrastructure project leadership and vendor management
- International coordination across multiple time zones
- NetBox or network documentation systems (preferred)
- Network automation and infrastructure as code (preferred)
