About this role
Notion seeks a Data Engineer to build scalable data systems and pipelines for People Analytics, enabling workforce decisions around hiring, performance, and compensation while maintaining strong privacy protections for sensitive employee data.
What you'll do
- Design and build ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest data from HRIS systems like Workday and ATS platforms
- Partner with Chief People Officer and leadership to translate workforce questions into metrics and data products
- Implement privacy-first data architecture with access controls, PII handling, and governance standards
- Build data quality, testing, and observability systems to ensure employee data accuracy and reliability
- Create data models, transformations, and self-serve analytics products for workforce visibility
- Support AI-powered people tools and automations with production-grade data infrastructure
What they're looking for
- 6+ years analytics engineering, data engineering, or people analytics experience
- HRIS and people systems expertise (Workday, ATS, payroll, benefits platforms)
- SQL and data modeling for production transformations
- Python or similar OOP languages for pipeline development
- Modern data tools: Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, Fivetran, or equivalents
- Data quality, testing, monitoring, and SLA design
- Data privacy, governance, and access control implementation
- Stakeholder communication with executive and business leaders
