Audiovisual Design Engineer

About this role

OpenAI seeks an experienced Audiovisual Design Engineer to architect and manage enterprise conference room AV and video conferencing infrastructure across global offices. You'll establish scalable standards, oversee technology lifecycle management, and ensure reliable, user-friendly AV systems that support the organization's growth and operational needs.

What you'll do

• Design and maintain global conference room AV standards, hardware stacks, and user experience requirements with five 9s availability focus
• Create standardized AV drawing packages, design templates, and documentation for consistent global deployment
• Establish monitoring, alerting, and automation systems for AV infrastructure at scale
• Lead technical design reviews for new office buildouts and ensure alignment with global AV architecture
• Manage full AV technology lifecycle including vendor evaluation, deployment, support, refresh cycles, and end-of-life planning
• Partner with cross-functional teams (Events, Network Engineering, Real Estate, Security) to integrate AV systems with IT services

• QSYS programming and control systems
• Enterprise networking (multicast routing, QoS, IGMP, switch configuration)
• CAD software (Revit, AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Visio)
• AV scripting (Lua, Python, Appscript)
• Video conferencing platforms (Google Meet, Zoom, Teams)
• AV over IP technologies (Dante, ST 2110, NDI, QLAN)
• Cloud hosting and highly available system design
