Data Scientist, Infrastructure

About this role

Join OpenAI's infrastructure team as a Data Scientist to drive strategic decisions on scaling one of the world's largest compute fleets. You'll build foundational datasets, develop forecasting models, and partner with engineering and research teams to optimize infrastructure that powers OpenAI's products globally.

What you'll do

• Create and maintain foundational datasets and metrics for infrastructure usage, efficiency, and scaling
• Develop forecasting and optimization models to support infrastructure planning and resource allocation
• Partner with engineering, research, and product teams to inform infrastructure strategy through data insights
• Build source-of-truth dashboards and analyses to guide infrastructure decisions across the organization
• Navigate ambiguous problems to surface actionable insights and long-term strategic tradeoffs

What they're looking for

• 5+ years of quantitative analysis in infrastructure, systems, or platform domains
• SQL and Python proficiency
• Metrics definition and operationalization for system performance and resource usage
• Forecasting and optimization modeling
• Stakeholder communication and cross-functional collaboration
• Data visualization and dashboard development
• Large-scale backend systems experience (preferred)
• LLM or generative AI knowledge (preferred)
