Frontend Software Engineer, Codex App

About this role

Build polished, high-performance frontend experiences for Codex, OpenAI's desktop app and IDE extension that integrates AI agents into developer workflows. Partner with design and product teams to define and refine how developers collaborate with AI, from UI architecture to interaction patterns for long-running tasks.

What you'll do

• Develop and ship production-quality UI for the Codex desktop app and IDE extensions
• Collaborate closely with design to prototype and iterate on human-agent interaction models
• Design frontend architecture including component systems, state management, and performance optimization
• Build interfaces for agent delegation, progress tracking, task timelines, and control surfaces
• Improve reliability through testing, instrumentation, and thoughtful error handling
• Integrate new capabilities with platform and backend partners into cohesive product flows
