About this role

OpenAI seeks a Hardware Test Engineer to design and execute comprehensive test plans for AI-native silicon and datacenter hardware systems. You'll collaborate across hardware design, manufacturing, and firmware teams to validate reliability, performance, and thermal characteristics of supercomputing infrastructure.

What you'll do

  • Design and execute comprehensive test plans for hardware components including processors, memory, accelerators, and high-speed interconnects
  • Perform in-depth debugging and troubleshooting on hardware systems, analyzing power, thermal, and signal integrity issues
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using Python and Bash to streamline testing processes and improve efficiency
  • Characterize high-speed links with focus on SerDes technology, assessing signal integrity and error rates
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and firmware teams to identify and resolve hardware issues
  • Maintain test lab equipment including oscilloscopes, thermal chambers, liquid cooling systems, and measurement devices
