Software Engineer, Core Services

About this role

Join OpenAI's Core Services team to design and operate critical backend infrastructure systems that power product teams at scale. You'll build highly reliable distributed systems including caching layers, workflow orchestration, metadata stores, and file services while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and maintain shared infrastructure services like caching systems, workflow orchestration, and metadata stores
• Partner with product teams to deliver scalable, reliable primitives that simplify distributed systems complexity
• Improve performance, resilience, and scalability of core services used by customer-facing applications
• Operate containerized services in cloud environments with automated CI/CD workflows
• Navigate trade-offs in consistency models and multi-region replication strategies
