About this role

OpenAI seeks a Software Engineer to design and operate privacy-focused data infrastructure supporting legal compliance workflows. You'll build secure data pipelines, search services, and automation tools that enable legal teams to manage data holds, document discovery, and auditable exports at scale.

What you'll do

  • Design and operate large-scale data storage pipelines for legal compliance
  • Build search and discovery services using tools like Spark/Databricks and metadata catalogs
  • Automate secure data transfers with encryption, checksumming, and audit trails
  • Set up secure compute environments balancing usability with security controls
  • Instrument monitoring and KPIs to track data holds and productions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to document SOPs, threat models, and chain-of-custody procedures
