Backend Engineer, Ops

About this role

Ramp's Ops Engineering team is seeking a Backend Engineer to design and build internal tools and infrastructure that empower operations teams. You'll develop full-stack applications, backend services, and integrations with platforms like Retool and Zendesk while leveraging AI to automate workflows and improve operational efficiency.

What you'll do

• Design and build full-stack internal applications and APIs that empower operations teams
• Develop robust backend services ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance
• Build integrations with third-party platforms like Retool, Zendesk, and operational systems
• Leverage AI tools to create intelligent automation and enhance operator productivity
• Collaborate with operations stakeholders to understand pain points and iterate on solutions
• Own features end-to-end from design through deployment and monitoring

What they're looking for

• Python, TypeScript/Node.js, or similar modern programming languages
• Full-stack application development with React, Next.js, or similar frameworks
• Backend architecture, API design, and database systems (PostgreSQL, Redis)
• AI/LLM integration and AI-powered feature development
• Cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and DevOps practices
• Internal tooling development and stakeholder collaboration
• Software engineering best practices and code quality
• Cross-functional communication and product thinking
