About this role

Join the Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies joint venture as a Design-for-Reliability Engineer focused on low-voltage electronic architectures for electric vehicles. You'll guide ECU designs through reliability analysis, failure investigation, and validation strategies to ensure vehicle control, connectivity, and autonomous systems meet performance targets from concept to production.

What you'll do

  • Drive product reliability for vehicle control, connected car, and autonomous systems through design-for-reliability practices across the product lifecycle
  • Establish design guidelines and standards for hardware teams, identifying failure modes and defining countermeasures for low-voltage electronics
  • Develop validation strategies, physics-of-failure reliability specifications, and accelerated testing methods to expand design margins
  • Lead root-cause failure investigations using first-principles analysis and collaborate with suppliers and failure analysis labs to verify corrective actions
  • Audit contract manufacturers on-site to ensure DFMEA and PFMEA recommendations are implemented during development
  • Analyze fleet and field data to detect emerging risks and inform design standards for future ECU programs

What they're looking for

  • PCBA, electronics, and control systems fundamentals
  • Failure modes analysis and reliability specification development
  • FMEA facilitation (DFMEA/PFMEA) and cross-functional leadership
  • Python or other coding language proficiency
  • Statistical reliability software (JMP, ReliaSoft, Weibull analysis)
  • Highly accelerated testing (HALT) methodology and failure mechanism equations
  • Failure analysis techniques (optical microscopy, SEM, X-Ray, EDS, TDR)
  • Electronics thermal management and interconnect design

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary with annual performance bonus eligibility
  • Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) equity compensation
  • Comprehensive health coverage and retirement savings programs
  • Flexible time off and family planning benefits
