SpaceX
Electrical Hardware Engineer - Optics, Satellites (Starlink)
About this role
SpaceX seeks an Electrical Hardware Engineer to design and develop high-reliability electronics for Starlink satellites, focusing on optical communication systems, imaging sensors, and fiber optic transceivers. You'll own the complete lifecycle from schematic design through on-orbit performance, collaborating across electrical, mechanical, optical, thermal, and software teams.
What you'll do
- Design and develop high-reliability satellite electronics including mixed-signal circuit boards and optical systems
- Lead system trades, requirements capture, component selection, schematic capture, and PCB layout
- Conduct hardware bring-up, debugging, troubleshooting, and support production and flight integration
- Collaborate with mechanical, optical, thermal, software, and test engineering teams on integrated designs
- Drive full product lifecycle from prototyping through manufacturing, testing, and on-orbit validation
- Challenge assumptions and iterate on designs based on performance feedback
What they're looking for
- Mixed-signal circuit design (processors, FPGAs, GPUs, high-speed SERDES)
- PCB layout and schematic capture
- Analog circuitry including operational amplifiers, ADCs, DACs, photodiodes, and laser diodes
- High-speed interfaces (Ethernet, multi-GHz SERDES, DDR4, I2C, SPI)
- Power electronics and supply design
- Programming (Python, C/C++)
- Hardware debugging and troubleshooting
- Aerospace systems experience
