Optical Test Engineer (Integration & Test)

About this role

SpaceX is seeking an Optical Test Engineer to design, build, and operate optical metrology systems for validating space laser systems used in Starlink satellite operations. This role involves automation of testing processes and close collaboration with design teams to ensure hardware meets specifications.

What you'll do

• Design and operate optical metrology and test systems
• Use test data for troubleshooting optical flight hardware issues
• Automate optical testing procedures and data collection
• Train technicians on optical test equipment operation
• Inform designs to facilitate efficient testing operations
• Develop and maintain test plans and specifications

• Bachelor's degree in physics or engineering
• Hands-on experience with optical test equipment
• Proficiency in optical analysis tools like ZEMAX
• Knowledge of lasers, photonics, and optical troubleshooting techniques
• Experience with digital communication protocols
• Basic CAD proficiency
• Programming skills in Python or C/C++
• Strong accountability and communication skills
