Software Engineer, Balance Abstraction

About this role

Stripe seeks a Software Engineer to design and build scalable APIs and services handling billions of financial transactions. You'll shape next-generation products, mentor junior engineers, and establish engineering standards for the Balance Abstraction team.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and maintain APIs and large-scale systems for reliable money movement at billions of requests
• Develop next-generation Stripe products aligned with company growth and customer needs
• Translate product requirements into technical specifications and assess feasibility
• Review API launches and library designs to ensure compatibility and quality standards
• Represent the team in technical meetings and understand system interactions across the company
• Mentor early-career engineers and establish core engineering principles

• Ruby, Java, and TypeScript
• Relational, document, or columnar database schema design
• SQL querying
• REST, gRPC, or GraphQL API development
• Event processing (SQS, Kafka)
