About this role

Tomorrow.io is seeking an Optical Payload Engineer to contribute to the development and operation of their weather observation constellation. This role combines optical engineering, imaging systems, and spacecraft expertise to translate scientific objectives into instrument requirements and ensure optimal payload performance throughout the mission lifecycle. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to address technical challenges and drive innovation in weather intelligence.

What you'll do

  • Support development, integration, and verification of optical payloads.
  • Translate mission needs into instrument requirements and verification plans.
  • Conduct optical and imaging performance analyses (radiometry, SNR, MTF).
  • Support design and validation of imaging sensors and electro-optical hardware.
  • Evaluate payload performance factors (aperture, thermal gradients, etc.).
  • Support radiometric calibration and data quality assurance.
