The Systems Engineer VI-PE (Team Manager) performs project engineering tasks independently on fast-paced programs and serves as a people leader who is passionate about helping team members succeed as contributors to the team, engineering organization and company. The individual provides technical direction and programmatic oversight across engineering disciplines, ensuring alignment of design, performance and risk with mission and contractual requirements.

The position reports to the Director of Engineering and is part of the Controllable Solid Propulsion department based in Folsom, CA. This role is hybrid or remote and can be based in Folsom, CA, Reno, NV, Huntsville, AL, Long Beach, CA or can be Remote.

In this role, the essential functions are

  • Serve as chief project engineer or senior technical lead for large, multi-phase, or multi-contract defense and aerospace programs.
  • In addition to the technical responsibilities, the Team Manager provides people leadership and management support for an engineering technical team of approximately 10 engineers. These responsibilities represent approximately 20% of total job duties.
  • Define and guide system architecture, integration, and verification strategies aligned with customer and mission objectives.
  • Oversee engineering execution across multiple Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and major subcontractors, ensuring technical, cost, and schedule compliance.
  • Lead technical baseline definition, configuration management, system integration planning, and major design and integration reviews.
  • Chair or provide executive-level support for major design and integration reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR) and ensure readiness and compliance with technical performance metrics.
  • Serve as the primary engineering interface to executive management and Department of Defense customers, supporting technical interchange meetings and milestone reviews.
  • Manage and approve Statements of Work (SOWs), subcontractor technical deliverables and major supplier design inputs.
  • Develop and implement advanced risk and opportunity management frameworks across enterprise-level programs.
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and technical oversight to project engineers and functional leads.
  • Support proposal development, cost estimation, and new business capture activities.
  • Guide and enforce adherence to systems engineering standards, model-based engineering practices, and configuration control.
  • Drive organizational engineering process improvements, knowledge management, and best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline from an accredited college/university; Master’s Degree preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  2. Fifteen (15) years of project engineering experience.
  3. Expertise in system integration, verification planning, and risk-based engineering approaches.
  4. Demonstrated ability to lead technical execution across multidisciplinary engineering teams, programs, and major subcontractors.
  5. Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage executive and customer audiences.
  6. Proficiency with engineering management and project planning tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera, or equivalent.
  7. Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop team members in a professional engineering environment.
  8. Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Controllable Solid Rocket Propulsion System leadership experience.
  • Functional management of small, highly technical teams.

Travel, Physical, and/or Government Mandated Requirements

  • Ability to travel approximately 20% of the time.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level.
  • Applicants must meet applicable U.S. Government export control requirements, including ITAR/EAR eligibility, as applicable.

The good faith base salary range for this role is $161,016 - $279,160 at the time of this posting. Where you fall within the range depends on your experience, skills, and location. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or bonus/incentive. This range may be adjusted in the future.

This position is incentive plan eligible.
