Thermal Engineer II
About this role
Voyager Lunar Systems seeks a Thermal Engineer II to design, model, test, and operate thermal control systems for spacecraft and lunar missions. The hybrid Pittsburgh-based role involves developing thermal components, running simulations, supporting cleanroom assembly, and providing mission operations expertise for advanced space hardware.
What you'll do
- Design, integrate, test, and operate thermal control systems for spacecraft, lunar landers, rovers, and surface power systems
- Create conceptual and detailed designs of thermal system components using CAD and engineering tools
- Build and execute thermal models to inform design decisions and predict hardware performance
- Generate vendor specifications and validate component performance against requirements
- Support cleanroom spacecraft assembly and thermal vacuum chamber (TVAC) testing activities
- Train in mission operations procedures and provide real-time operational support during missions

- Thermal-fluid engineering fundamentals and analysis
- Thermal modeling software (Thermal Desktop, Ansys Thermal, or Amesim)
- Scientific programming (Python, C/C++, Matlab, Fortran)
- CAD design (SolidWorks preferred)
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (Ansys FLUENT/CFX)
- Thermal vacuum testing and space hardware validation
- Technical writing and presentation skills
- Lifecycle management and configuration tools
