About this role
Vulcan Elements is seeking a Materials Analysis Engineer – Metallurgist to lead in metallurgical analysis and testing for the production of rare-earth permanent magnets. The role demands a professional with extensive experience in metallic materials, who can provide expert insights and implement improvements in laboratory infrastructure and testing methods.
What you'll do
- Act as the primary metallurgical resource for analysis and testing.
- Develop testing plans for process development and product qualification.
- Analyze microstructure and plating quality using various techniques.
- Report findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Implement improvements to laboratory facilities and methods.
- Design and build mechanical fixtures for laboratory operations.
What they're looking for
- B.S. or higher in Materials Science, Engineering, or Metallurgy
- 10 years of metallurgical or materials engineering experience
- Expertise in heat treatment, plating, and materials testing
- Mechanical aptitude for hands-on work
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with microscopy and SEM/EDS
- Knowledge of quality management systems
- Familiarity with failure analysis techniques
