Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Software/Firmware Engineer

Pittsburgh, PAfull-timemidAdded today

About this role

Waabi seeks a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Software/Firmware Engineer to develop test infrastructure for autonomous vehicle validation. You'll build simulation interfaces, automated test frameworks, and bench control software that validates embedded firmware and autonomy stacks before deployment on vehicles.

What you'll do

  • Develop software and firmware for HIL test benches, including simulation interfaces, fault-injection tools, and bench control systems
  • Build test frameworks that inject synthetic vehicle dynamics and CAN/Ethernet messages to validate embedded modules under realistic conditions
  • Integrate HIL test execution into CI pipelines to automate validation of firmware and software releases
  • Design instrumentation and data acquisition software for hardware timestamping and endurance-run analysis
  • Support hardware bring-up, debug hardware/software interactions, and assist cross-functional teams running bench tests
  • Analyze and document test data for engineering teams across embedded, autonomy, and validation disciplines

What they're looking for

  • Python programming
  • C/C++ or Rust for embedded/real-time systems
  • Automotive communication protocols (CAN, automotive Ethernet)
  • Test automation frameworks and CI integration
  • Linux command-line and system administration
  • Lab equipment operation (oscilloscopes, DAQs, power supplies)
  • Hardware/software debugging at the boundary
  • Technical writing and documentation
