Hardware Engineer, LIDAR Performance Validation

Waymo is looking for a Hardware Engineer focused on LiDAR performance validation to collaborate with engineers across various disciplines in developing high-performance LiDAR systems. The role involves characterizing systems, creating testing methods, and ensuring data quality while working in a hybrid environment.

What you'll do

• Collaborate with engineers to develop and characterize LiDAR systems
• Create bench characterization methods and performance validation plans
• Define test and calibration procedures for data quality
• Design and execute LiDAR field measurements and tests
• Interface with software engineers to resolve data quality issues
• Transition between modeling, simulation, and hands-on testing

What they're looking for

• Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Physics
• Knowledge of depth sensing technologies
• Experience with physics-based computational models
• Data analysis and technical communication skills
• Proficiency in Python or C++
• Understanding of optical semiconductors and systems
• Experiment design and hypothesis testing experience
