Waymo is looking for a Hardware Engineer focused on LiDAR performance validation to collaborate with engineers across various disciplines in developing high-performance LiDAR systems. The role involves characterizing systems, creating testing methods, and ensuring data quality while working in a hybrid environment.
What you'll do
- Collaborate with engineers to develop and characterize LiDAR systems
- Create bench characterization methods and performance validation plans
- Define test and calibration procedures for data quality
- Design and execute LiDAR field measurements and tests
- Interface with software engineers to resolve data quality issues
- Transition between modeling, simulation, and hands-on testing
What they're looking for
- Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Physics
- Knowledge of depth sensing technologies
- Experience with physics-based computational models
- Data analysis and technical communication skills
- Proficiency in Python or C++
- Understanding of optical semiconductors and systems
- Experiment design and hypothesis testing experience
