Zoox
Embedded Software Engineer - Drive Systems
About this role
Join Zoox's Firmware Drive Systems team to develop safety-critical embedded software that translates autonomous trajectories into vehicle motion control. You'll work on production-grade code managing motor control, brake systems, steering, and continuous safety monitoring across multiple control sources for autonomous vehicles.
What you'll do
- Develop and maintain embedded firmware for drive control systems translating AI trajectories to actuator commands
- Implement safety-critical code for motor torques, brake control, and steering angle management
- Arbitrate between multiple control sources including AI stack, remote controller, and test systems
- Monitor and validate safety of trajectory execution and drive control ECUs in real-time
- Ensure reliable vehicle operation across service, depot staging, testing, and manufacturing phases
- Collaborate on hardware-firmware integration for autonomous vehicle motion systems
What they're looking for
- Embedded C/C++ firmware development
- Safety-critical systems design and validation
- Real-time control systems and dynamics
- Motor control and actuator interfacing
- Hardware abstraction and ECU programming
- Testing and diagnostics for autonomous systems
- Version control and embedded software best practices
- Systems thinking for complex dynamic environments
