Camera Hardware Engineer, Robot Head
About this role
1X is seeking a Camera Hardware Engineer to develop and validate imaging systems for NEO, a humanoid home robot. You'll own camera module validation from prototype through mass production, establish image quality standards, and ensure reliable performance across demanding real-world operating conditions.
What you'll do
- Define and execute comprehensive validation strategies for camera modules, sensors, and vision systems
- Characterize optical, electrical, and system-level camera performance under robotic operating conditions
- Develop image quality specifications, validation methodologies, and objective performance metrics
- Design calibration procedures and manufacturing test processes for high-volume production
- Lead camera hardware bring-up from prototype through production qualification
- Collaborate with CV, ML, electrical, and mechanical teams to optimize complete imaging system performance

- Camera system architecture, optics, sensors, and image quality evaluation
- Image quality evaluation tools (Imatest, Image Engineering, MATLAB, or equivalent)
- Python and C/C++ programming
- Linux environment proficiency
- Hardware debugging, validation, and optimization
- Multidisciplinary team collaboration and cross-functional communication
- Stereo vision or multi-camera systems (preferred)
- Computer vision and machine learning frameworks (preferred)
