About this role
1X is seeking a Materials and Process Innovation Engineer to develop and scale manufacturing processes for advanced soft materials and polymers that enable next-generation humanoid robots. You'll bridge the gap between lab innovations and production-ready manufacturing, ensuring novel material systems perform reliably at scale while maintaining safety and cost-effectiveness.
What you'll do
- Develop and optimize scalable manufacturing processes for advanced soft materials, polymers, elastomers, composites, and coatings
- Transition material technologies from laboratory concepts to production-ready workflows
- Improve process consistency, yield, and product quality through data-driven optimization
- Establish relationships between material composition, processing conditions, and functional performance
- Identify and implement manufacturing technologies for next-generation soft and functional materials
- Collaborate across research, engineering, design, and manufacturing teams
What they're looking for
- Materials processing and manufacturing science
- Fabrication techniques (casting, coating, lamination, molding, thermoforming)
- Experience with polymers, elastomers, composites, textiles, and multilayer systems
- Material characterization and process validation
- Experimental design and complex systems optimization
- Manufacturing scale-up and production engineering
- Advanced manufacturing techniques (additive manufacturing, 3D printing, photolithography)
