Mechanical Engineer
About this role
1X is hiring a Mechanical Engineer to design and deliver test fixtures for NEO, a general-purpose humanoid robot. You'll own fixture development end-to-end—from understanding test objectives through CAD design, manufacturing coordination, lab assembly, and iteration—ensuring safe and repeatable validation of robot hardware and subsystems.
What you'll do
- Design production-ready mechanical test fixtures that enable rigorous validation and reliability testing of NEO hardware subsystems
- Develop complete fixture design packages including 3D CAD models, 2D engineering drawings, material specifications, tolerances, and assembly requirements
- Coordinate with internal fabrication teams and external vendors on design-for-manufacturability, quotes, lead times, and fabrication resolution
- Assemble fixtures in the lab, perform fit checks, install in test cells, and iterate designs based on test feedback
- Translate complex test requirements, load paths, and constraints into simple, robust fixture designs that minimize artifacts
- Collaborate with Test, Design, and Manufacturing teams to refine designs from concept through production deployment
What they're looking for
- 3D CAD and 2D engineering drawing with proficiency in tolerancing and mechanical interfaces
- Mechanical fixture design for testing, assembly, or tooling applications
- Design for manufacturability (DFM) and understanding of machining, fabrication, and rapid prototyping processes
- Mechanical testing fundamentals including loads, load paths, fixturing, and test setup safety
- Hands-on hardware assembly, installation, and troubleshooting in lab environments
- Communication and collaboration with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, and vendor teams
- Problem-solving from first principles with strong judgment on performance, cost, and schedule trade-offs
- Experience with robotics or hardware validation (preferred)
