About this role
A defense startup is seeking a Digital Power Electronics Firmware Engineer to develop embedded control systems for power conversion and distribution in autonomous defense platforms. You'll design firmware for DC-DC converters and power management systems, working with simulation tools and hardware validation in a collaborative engineering environment.
What you'll do
- Design and implement C/C++ firmware for digital control of power electronics systems including DC-DC converters and voltage regulation
- Use SPICE and MATLAB/Simulink to model, validate, and optimize control systems before hardware implementation
- Collaborate with electrical engineers on hardware bring-up, lab debugging, and validation under various load conditions
- Optimize power system efficiency, stability, and thermal performance through firmware iteration
- Implement control algorithms such as PID loops, PWM, and phase-shift control for power topologies
- Debug and troubleshoot power electronics systems in demanding field environments
What they're looking for
- Embedded C/C++ development for microcontrollers (STM32, TI C2000, or equivalent)
- Digital control of DC-DC converters, inverters, and power management systems
- MATLAB, Simulink, and SPICE simulation tools
- PID control loops and compensation techniques
- PWM and phase-shift modulation for power systems
- Analog and digital power electronics knowledge
- Hardware validation and lab debugging
- EMI and high-efficiency power design experience
Benefits
- Competitive salary
- Equity package
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- Paid time off
- Work with cutting-edge defense technology
- Engineering-first company culture
