About this role

Apex seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design and support ground support equipment for spacecraft integration, testing, and launch operations. You'll use CAD tools and structural analysis to develop reliable mechanical systems while collaborating across engineering, test, and manufacturing teams in a fast-growing aerospace startup.

What you'll do

  • Design mechanical ground support equipment using NX CAD software with detailed drawings, assemblies, and bills of materials
  • Perform structural analysis including load paths, fixture stability, and stress margin calculations using hand calculations and FEA
  • Support spacecraft integration, assembly, and test campaigns with real-time mechanical expertise on the floor
  • Create comprehensive documentation packages detailing MGSE capabilities, analysis, and use cases
  • Develop and refine operational procedures for MGSE use in cleanroom and floor environments
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with systems, electrical, software, and test teams on hardware integration

  • 3D CAD proficiency (NX preferred, CATIA experience valued)
  • Structural analysis and FEA tools (ANSYS, NASTRAN)
  • Mechanical design principles, tolerancing, and GD&T
  • Manufacturing methods, materials selection, and inspection processes
  • Lifting/rigging hardware, fluid systems, and pneumatic systems design
  • Integration & test operations and cleanroom practices
  • Hand calculations for load analysis and structural verification
  • Technical communication with cross-functional teams
