About this role

Apex seeks a Space Vehicle Systems Engineer to lead spacecraft architecture, requirements allocation, and cross-disciplinary integration for a classified national security satellite program. You'll drive system-level design decisions, manage interfaces across all domains, and serve as the technical bridge between engineering teams, government customers, and payload partners throughout the vehicle lifecycle.

What you'll do

  • Define and maintain spacecraft architecture and requirements with full traceability from mission objectives through subsystem level
  • Lead trade studies, risk analyses, and simulations to balance performance, cost, and schedule constraints
  • Develop and maintain system documentation including specifications, Interface Control Documents, and technical budgets
  • Coordinate cross-domain subsystem integration and enforce interface compatibility across electrical, mechanical, thermal, and software systems
  • Analyze test and anomaly data to isolate issues and drive resolution with subsystem teams
  • Present technical readiness and compliance at design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR) and engage with government customers on requirements and technical issues

What they're looking for

  • Systems engineering principles and V&V methodologies
  • Requirements management tools (DOORS, Jira, SysML)
  • Spacecraft subsystems knowledge (attitude control, power, thermal, propulsion, communications, C&DH)
  • Mission analysis and modeling
  • Risk management and FMEA
  • Technical documentation and interface control
  • Cross-functional coordination and stakeholder communication
  • Industry standards (INCOSE, NASA systems engineering guidelines)

Likely interview questions

  • Walk us through your experience with spacecraft subsystem interdependencies—how have you managed conflicts between power, thermal, and propulsion constraints?
  • Describe a time you led a major trade study with competing requirements; how did you communicate the technical rationale to non-engineering stakeholders?
