About this role
Archer, an electric aircraft startup in San Jose, seeks a Flight Sciences Tools and HPC engineer to design and maintain software infrastructure and high-performance computing systems that enable engineering teams to solve problems more efficiently. You'll develop tools for computational reproducibility, manage on-premises HPC resources, and foster software excellence across the engineering organization.
What you'll do
- Design and maintain internal software libraries, applications, and computing infrastructure for Flight Sciences engineers
- Develop processes and tools to improve reproducibility and traceability of computations
- Manage and administer on-premises HPC resources and optimize infrastructure solutions
- Assess engineering team needs to ensure efficient HPC resource utilization and cost savings
- Promote best practices in software development and shared computational infrastructure use
- Serve as liaison between engineering teams and company-wide IT department

- Scientific Python ecosystem (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch, VTK)
- HPC system design and administration (on-premise or cloud/AWS)
- Linux administration, parallel file systems, and MPI
- HPC management software (Slurm, PBS, Torque, OpenHPC, Warewulf, Spack, Lmod)
- Software development best practices (version control, CI/CD, testing, environment management)
- Flight sciences domain knowledge (aerodynamics, acoustics, vehicle simulation, thermal analysis, etc.)
- Enterprise IT and network security practices
- Collaborative problem-solving and team communication
