Machine Learning Engineer

About this role

BetterHelp seeks a Machine Learning Engineer to develop and deploy NLP and LLM-powered features for their mental health platform. You'll focus on building scalable AI systems, implementing safety guardrails, optimizing model performance, and collaborating with product and engineering teams to ensure responsible AI deployment.

What you'll do

• Develop, fine-tune, and optimize NLP systems and language models for domain-specific mental health applications
• Design and implement evaluation frameworks and automated testing pipelines to measure model quality and detect failures
• Build guardrails and safety systems to detect unsafe outputs, prompt injection, and abuse patterns
• Optimize LLM inference performance through quantization, distillation, and model serving improvements
• Deploy and maintain production ML systems on GPU infrastructure with monitoring and metrics
• Partner with product and engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable ML solutions
