About this role
Cartesia seeks a backend Software Engineer to build the distributed systems powering Line, their voice agents platform. You'll own the Go API and Python worker stack end-to-end, directly influencing latency, reliability, and the developer experience for production-grade voice agents.
What you'll do
- Build and operate distributed systems for voice agents including load balancing, worker management, and real-time media pipelines
- Take projects from design through production: architect, implement, deploy, monitor, and iterate
- Make architectural decisions on latency budgets, reliability targets, and scaling strategies with clear tradeoff analysis
- Define developer experience through APIs, observability tools, and evaluation frameworks
- Collaborate on spec writing and design reviews with technical and non-technical stakeholders
What they're looking for
- Distributed backend systems architecture and production experience
- Go and/or Python backend development
- Real-time media systems (WebRTC, SIP, RTP, low-latency audio)
- Cloud infrastructure and observability (Kubernetes, Docker, gRPC, OpenTelemetry)
- AI coding tools and staying current with AI frontier
- Strong communication and technical writing abilities
- Product thinking around platform work
