Forward Deployed Engineer
About this role
Join a Y Combinator-backed insurtech startup as the first Forward Deployed Engineer to own end-to-end customer deployments of AI agents in insurance agencies. You'll uncover complex workflows, build integrations with legacy systems, and ensure production AI solutions succeed with real users—combining engineering, product discovery, and customer success in an on-site San Francisco role.
What you'll do
- Own full deployment lifecycle from customer discovery through go-live and adoption, working directly with agency owners and ops teams
- Design and build integrations with agency systems, including those with poor or missing documentation
- Translate undocumented workflows and tribal knowledge into system designs and ship them
- Diagnose customer issues, ship fixes and customizations to fit each agency's unique processes
- Identify failure patterns across accounts and feed platform improvements back to core team
- Travel to customer sites regularly to ensure successful deployment and adoption
What they're looking for
- Python production code (2+ years)
- AI agent development and LLM/prompt engineering
- System integrations and API proficiency
- Voice or telephony stacks (Twilio or similar)
- Reverse-engineering undocumented or legacy systems
- End-to-end project ownership and discovery
- Translating between technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Early-stage startup experience or ownership of ambiguous projects
