Bioelectronics Engineer, Wetware & Biosensor Integration
Pasadena, CA$95k–$150kfull timemidAdded 2 days ago
About this role
Join Melody, a nonprofit research organization in Pasadena pioneering continuous molecular monitoring technology, as a Bioelectronics Engineer. You'll lead the integration of protein biosensors with device hardware and materials, designing experiments that advance real-world biosensing applications from lab to in vivo testing.
What you'll do
- Lead wetware integration strategy across biosensor proteins, surface chemistry, hydrogels, membranes, and readout hardware
- Design diagnostic experiments to isolate biosensor performance issues from material and system failures
- Execute directed evolution workflows and guide protein design based on experimental results
- Synthesize or adapt materials for bioelectronics interfaces and merge them with novel device hardware
- Help automate fabrication and assay workflows using robotics systems
- Set up foundry experimentation infrastructure with tight feedback loops for protein engineering
What they're looking for
- Protein engineering and expression/purification
- Bioconjugation and surface chemistry
- Optical and electrochemical biosensing
- Hydrogels and biomaterials design
- Custom instrumentation building for biophysics and electrochemistry
- Experimental design under real-world constraints
- Cross-disciplinary technical communication
- Data analysis scripting and lab automation
Benefits
- Work on mission-driven public health research at an early-stage nonprofit
- Opportunity to own projects end-to-end from protein to in vivo studies
- Collaborate with team spanning protein engineering, materials science, hardware, and software
- Located in Pasadena with ties to Caltech and Janelia research community
