Mechanical Engineer II, Factory Automation

Torrance, California, United StatesFrom $204.1kmidAdded today

About this role

Divergent seeks a Mechanical Engineer II to design and develop mechanical components and subsystems for their Adaptive Production System (DAPS), enabling flexible factory automation across automotive, aerospace, and defense manufacturing. You'll own mechanical projects from concept through deployment, translating system requirements into practical designs while balancing performance, cost, manufacturability, and reliability.

What you'll do

  • Own mechanical design and development of automation components and subsystems from concept through testing and deployment
  • Translate system requirements into clear mechanical component specifications, interfaces, and acceptance criteria
  • Develop practical automation solutions balancing technical requirements with cost, schedule, manufacturability, and reliability constraints
  • Create mechanical designs using CAD, GD&T, tolerance analysis, engineering calculations, and bills of material
  • Apply mechanical fundamentals across structures, mechanisms, motion systems, fluids, thermal systems, and machine integration
  • Evaluate design alternatives and make sound engineering tradeoffs across performance, safety, manufacturability, and cost

What they're looking for

  • Mechanical design and CAD (detailed design, GD&T, tolerance analysis)
  • Machine design and mechanisms
  • Precision motion systems and actuation
  • Manufacturing methods and design for manufacturability
  • Engineering calculations and component selection
  • Cross-functional collaboration (mechanical, electrical, controls, software, operations)
  • Factory automation systems and controls integration
  • Design tradeoff analysis and technical decision-making
