About this role
Encore seeks an experienced, commercially minded finance professional to serve as Director / Senior Director - Finance & Investment. This individual will be a senior member of Encore's finance team, with responsibility for leading project finance underwriting, capital formation, investment analysis, and transaction execution across Encore's solar and energy storage portfolio. The role requires the ability to independently own complex workstreams, exercise sound investment judgment, communicate effectively with senior management and capital partners, and drive transactions from initial evaluation through closing and ongoing portfolio management.
Encore is a dynamic, high-growth, team-oriented, fast-paced entrepreneurial company. We want colleagues who are willing to take on broad ownership and accountability to achieve results. Working closely with the Chief Financial and Investment Officer, the successful candidate will be expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy, develop and mentor junior team members, and serve as a trusted partner to colleagues across development, construction, asset management, accounting, legal, and executive leadership.
Your Responsibilities
-
Lead financial modeling, underwriting, and investment decision-making across Encore's project finance investments, M&A, capital raising (including construction debt, back-leverage, tax equity and tax credit transfers), and business development activities
-
Own the evaluation of project and portfolio investments, including returns analysis, capital-at-risk assessment, financing assumptions, downside cases, sensitivities, and recommendations to senior leadership
-
Lead the preparation and presentation of investment materials to management and investment committees throughout the project lifecycle, clearly articulating key risks, value drivers, underwriting assumptions, and recommendations
-
Lead financing transactions from strategy through closing, including structuring, financial modeling, lender and investor engagement, due diligence, term sheet negotiation, documentation, closing mechanics, and post-closing compliance and relationship management
-
Develop and maintain relationships with banks, tax equity investors, tax credit buyers, institutional capital providers, advisors, and other financing counterparties; support capital-markets strategy and evaluation of new financing structures
-
Partner with development and commercial teams to evaluate project economics, price offtake opportunities, assess acquisition opportunities, and establish financial parameters that support disciplined investment decisions
-
Oversee recurring financial and portfolio reporting to capital partners and senior management, ensuring accurate, timely, decision-useful analysis and clear communication of performance, risks, liquidity, and capital requirements
-
Partner closely with accounting, treasury, legal, construction, and asset management teams to ensure financing assumptions, forecasts, transaction requirements, and financial reporting are appropriately integrated
-
Own and continuously improve Encore's project finance models, underwriting standards, investment-committee processes, reporting tools, and transaction workflows, with an emphasis on scalability, consistency, controls, and efficient use of data
-
Provide leadership, coaching, and quality control for junior finance team members, including review of models, analyses, presentations, and transaction deliverables
-
Serve as a senior finance resource across the organization and take ownership of strategic and ad hoc analyses as business needs evolve
Your Experience
-
8+ years of relevant transactional experience in project finance, infrastructure investing, M&A, investment banking, or principal investing, with significant experience in the U.S. renewable energy sector; Senior Director candidates will generally be expected to bring 10+ years of relevant experience and a demonstrated record of leading complex transactions
-
Demonstrated experience independently leading renewable energy financings or investments through closing, including responsibility for structuring, underwriting, diligence, negotiation, documentation, and internal approvals
-
Deep understanding of U.S. renewable energy project finance, including construction debt, back-leverage, tax equity, ITC transferability, project-level cash waterfalls, debt sizing and covenant analysis; experience with both solar and energy storage strongly preferred
-
Advanced financial modeling skills and demonstrated ability to build, audit, manage, and interpret complex project and portfolio finance models; ability to translate model outputs into clear investment recommendations
-
Strong commercial and investment judgment, with the ability to identify material risks, challenge assumptions, balance competing considerations, and make recommendations with incomplete information
-
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex transactions and priorities simultaneously, establish workplans and deadlines, and drive cross-functional teams toward decisions and closing milestones
-
Experience managing relationships with senior internal stakeholders and external capital providers, including banks, institutional investors, tax equity investors, advisors, and legal counsel
-
Strong executive-level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to distill complex financial and transaction matters for senior management, investment committees, boards, and external counterparties
-
Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including mentoring and developing junior team members, reviewing analytical work product, and establishing high standards for accuracy, judgment, and execution
-
Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or a related field; MBA or other relevant graduate degree is a plus
-
Expert-level proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; experience with VBA, Python, Power BI, or other analytical and automation tools is a plus
-
Working technical and commercial knowledge of solar and battery energy storage technologies and the principal revenue, operating, interconnection, and construction considerations affecting project economics
-
Self-starter with a high degree of ownership, accountability, integrity, and emotional intelligence; comfortable operating independently in an entrepreneurial environment while collaborating effectively across functions
-
Team-oriented leader with a willingness to work across organizational boundaries and take on responsibilities beyond a narrowly defined role when needed
