About this role
fal is the generative media ecosystem powering the next generation of AI products. We build the infrastructure, tools, and model access that teams need to move from idea to production, and do it at scale without compromise. For developers and enterprises, fal is the foundation that makes generative media not just possible, but practical: a unified platform where high-performance inference, orchestration, and observability come together to unlock new categories of AI-native products.
As generative media reshapes industries across a market projected to grow by hundreds of billions over the next decade, fal is becoming the ecosystem that ambitious teams build on.
About this role:
We're hiring an Infrastructure Accounting Lead to own the accounting for fal's largest and fastest-growing cost base: compute. GPU capacity, colocation and hosting, and the engineering effort we build on top of it all run through this role — from the detailed review of infrastructure spend each month, to the technical positions behind it, to the systems and automation that make it scale.
You'll partner with Finance, Operations, and Engineering to build out fal's infrastructure and R&D accounting processes, including cost to compute. That means working with internal stakeholders and infrastructure partners on data and vendor billing accuracy, and collaborating with the Technical Accounting Lead on treatment of complex compute arrangements so our positions stand up to auditor review.
This is a hands-on, high-ownership role. You'll partner closely with Infrastructure, Engineering, Procurement, Legal, and Strategic Finance, and use the latest AI tools to work productively.
What you’ll do
Overall
Own the accounting for fal's compute costs: GPU capacity, cloud and data center commitments, and the infrastructure behind our platform.
Build AI agents, scripts and automated workflows that keep compute accounting accurate, timely and scalable, rather than manual and spreadsheet-driven.
Act as the accounting owner for compute vendors. Translate contracts, usage data and invoices into correct accounting and give clear insight into what compute really costs.
Compute Cost Accounting
Account for GPU and cloud provider agreements from start to finish, including reserved and committed capacity, usage-based billing, credits and true-ups.
Collaborate with Procurement to ensure we have a reliable, systems based schedule of every compute commitment, prepayment, deposit and asset.
Capitalize GPU servers, networking and data center equipment. Set useful lives and manage depreciation, disposals and impairment reviews.
Classify compute cost correctly between cost of revenue and operating expense (R&D and internal use) so Strategic Finance can rely on it for gross margin reporting.
Close, Audit & Other Technical Areas
Streamline recurring close work, leaning on AI/systems to assess usage data, match invoices to PO and contractual commitments, flag anomalies and draft journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and variance explanations.
Collaborate with Infrastructure and Engineering on capacity changes, and with Strategic Finance on forecasts, budget vs. actual and cost per unit of compute.
Ensure compute and infrastructure accounting is audit-ready with clear documentation and policies
Review compute and colocation agreements with Technical Accounting, Legal, and Procurement to identify embedded leases (ASC 842) and other terms that impact accounting.
Support ERP system implementation, including data flows, account structure and migration needs for compute costs.
Qualifications/Nice-to-haves
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred
8+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably a combination of public accounting and operational experience at a technology company (cloud infrastructure, SaaS, or AI strongly preferred)
A builder mindset that enjoys drawing the blueprint for automated, reliable and scalable processes
Best-in-class attention to detail and unwavering commitment to accuracy in an ever-changing business environment
Strong written and interpersonal communication skills — you can partner with internal and external stakeholders on complex topics and translate technical accounting into clear, concise takeaways for non-technical audiences
High agency — you set your own priorities, make decisions independently, and drive work to completion
Strong understanding of the AI development and platform infrastructure landscape
Experience at a high-growth software, cloud infrastructure, AI, or other capital-intensive technology company
AI and automation first. You use the latest AI tools — or build your own — to automate reconciliations, analyze large usage/spend datasets, and streamline your work
